Horwich Repair Café Set to Move to New Home, Thanks to Community Support
Key Highlights :
The Horwich Repair Café is set to move to a new home, thanks to the continued community support. The café, which is a voluntary led repair service, has been running for almost a year and is now set to enhance the scope of their repairs in the new location.
Chair of the group Anne Lee says that the main reason for the move is to get better parking facilities and Wi-Fi, as the previous venue had no Wi-Fi and limited parking. Anne also said that ensuring the new venue had level access and was near a bus route was also really important.
The group don’t charge anything for repairs and are community led with a social and environmental focus. Anne said: “We have a really good team of volunteers. Some are friends, but many of them are complete strangers.”
The group repairs a wide range of items from toasters to vacuums to bikes, toys, clothes, and much more. The café will be moving from St Elizabeth’s Church to next door at Brazley Community Centre on May 20.
Anne said: “I am so grateful to all the volunteers because without each and every one of them we wouldn’t have been able to do it.” The group runs on donations and was able to make this move as a result of this.
The Horwich Repair Café is a great example of how the community can come together to make a difference. It is a volunteer-led repair service that is focused on social and environmental issues, and it is helping to reduce the amount of items that are going to landfill.
The café also provides a great service for those who may not be able to afford to have their items repaired at a local business. It is a great way to save money and also help the environment by reducing the amount of items that are thrown away.
The group runs on the third Saturday of the month from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. For more information email [email protected] or visit their official Facebook page.
