As the war between Ukraine and Russia continues to rage on for 500 days, Ukrainians from across Bolton will be gathering in Victoria Square at the start of next month to show solidarity with their homeland. On Saturday, July 8, members of the Ukrainian community will gather at the town hall steps to mark the 500th day since Russia extended their war against Ukraine.

Yaroslaw Tymchyshyn, Bolton Branch Chairman of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britian, said Ukrainian guests and residents would ‘very much appreciate’ if people could join them ‘in an act of union and solidarity against the monster of Moscow’. The event will begin at 12 noon and will conclude at 1.00pm, although this may be extended on the day dependent upon the mood of the people.

The event in Victoria Square is just one of many that have been ongoing since the war began in 2014. These gatherings are a way to raise awareness of the plight in Ukraine and to show unity and solidarity against the ‘monster of Moscow’. The 500 days of struggle is a testament to the strength of the Ukrainian people, who have endured war crimes of rape and murder, bombing of buildings holding children, hospitals and schools.

Speaking to one of the officers at the Armed Forces Flag Day, he said it is easy to save people when they know what they are fighting for. This event in Victoria Square is a reminder of the bravery and resilience of the Ukrainian people, and a chance to show solidarity and support for the cause.

If you would like to attend the event in Victoria Square, please come dressed in normal attire, there is no need for any ceremonial dress. If you have a story or something you would like to highlight in the community, please email me at [email protected] or DM me on Twitter @chloewjourno.
