Headteacher Sam Mitchell of Egerton Primary School was left 'disappointed' and pupils saddened after the theft of a parking buddy sign from the school grounds. The parking buddies were put up outside the school in response to increasing congestion around the site during pick up and drop off times, with the intention of keeping children safe.

Ms Mitchell first noticed the sign had disappeared on Monday 19th June during the course of the school day. Despite neighbours checking their CCTV and substantial social media sharing of the story, there has been no further progress in finding the missing sign.

Ms Mitchell said: "Our priority is always the safety of children. They are put in position by our site manager each morning and put safely and securely back on our school site after all children have left the building at the end of the day. We are so sad to find that they are missing."

The school does not have the funds to replace the missing sign, but will continue to use the five remaining buddies in the hope that they are treated respectfully. Ms Mitchell remains hopeful that the missing buddy will be returned to the school or that someone will have information about its whereabouts.

The parking buddies are a visual reminder to drivers of the importance of not blocking the school site, avoiding zigzags, and avoiding parking on corners at the entrance to school. Ms Mitchell said: "The response from our community, when these went out at the start of June, was very positive, and given that there has been significant roadworks in the area, they are a timely reminder of driving and parking safely around our school."

It is important that drivers are conscious of the safety of children when driving around school sites, and that signs are not stolen or vandalised. It is also important that the community come together to help find the missing sign and bring it back to Egerton Primary School.

If you have any information regarding the missing parking buddy sign, please contact Egerton Primary School or local authorities.
