Unbelievably Cheap Prices of Fuel Draw Hordes of Drivers to Pembrokeshire Petrol Station
Key Highlights :

Motorists in Pembrokeshire were in for a pleasant surprise when they heard that the Eastgate Garage in Narberth was offering unleaded petrol and diesel at 129.9 pence per litre. The prices were so unbelievably cheap that drivers were seen queueing outside the petrol station on Friday afternoon, enduring long waits to fill up their tanks.
Garage owner Vijay Jaganathan said people were travelling for miles to “check whether it was actually true” after seeing pictures of the prices on social media. He said it had “gone a bit crazy” and that it was one of his busiest ever days since he took over the running of the garage in 2018.
The garage had recently changed from Murco to Texaco, which allowed it to increase its fuel capacity. Mr Jaganathan said that previously, they had very small tanks and were not able to buy fuel in bulk, which meant the fuel wasn’t cheap. After the switch to Texaco, the garage had a capacity of 38,000 litres for diesel, and 8,000 litres for unleaded.
The current average price for unleaded is 145.01 pence per litre and for diesel is 155.13 pence per litre, so the prices at Eastgate Garage are significantly lower. Mr Jaganathan believes that the large capacity of his garage is the reason they can keep prices so low.
The queues on Friday were very long, with people asking how the garage could keep prices so low. People had travelled from Pembroke, Haverfordwest, Milford Haven, and Carmarthen to fill up their tanks, and one couple even said they had come to “just see whether the prices are real or not”.
Mr Jaganathan told the Western Telegraph that he had the cheapest prices in the UK, and that these prices were an opening offer that would definitely continue. He said his aim was to keep prices as low as possible and that he was “currently the cheapest in the UK”.
