The small town of Bolton in Greater Manchester has been rallying around a local café that has been broken into twice in five months. Th3 Guys Bakers and Baristas on Great Moor Street has been a victim of theft and vandalism, with the most recent incident occurring on Tuesday, May 9. Labour’s Queens Park and Central councillor Linda Thomas and Cllr Richard Silvester have paid a visit to the café to show their support and to see what can be done to prevent future incidents.

The first break-in occurred in January, with money and kitchen knives stolen. In the most recent incident, a brick was used to break the glass of the door, although nothing was taken. The frustration and costs to repair led to owner Tiago Silva setting up a GoFundMe crowdfunding page, which has already reached its target of £500.

Cllr Thomas said: “This mindless anti-social criminality is so frustrating and costly for such a business which is trying its very best to deliver a great hospitality venue at a time when others are leaving the town centre. We hope the owners will put forward any thoughts they have that will help encourage future partnership working to help move the town centre forward. This ambition is something we are all desperate to foster to get our town centre back on track.”

Tiago also owns the Tapas Restaurant on Bradshawgate which was also broken into around six months ago. He and the staff of Th3 Guys Café are grateful for the support from the councillors and customers who have helped them reach their target.

“We won’t stop opening but we will try to make it safer so this does not keep happening,” said Tiago.

The community of Bolton is showing their support and are determined to help the café stay open and safe. If you have any information about the break-ins, please contact police on 101.
