Superstar jockey Jamie Kah sat down with Hamish McLachlan this week to open up on the race fall that left her with a serious concussion in a 7 exclusive. The nine-time Group 1-winning jockey at Flemington on March 11, Kah revealed that she has no memory of the fall or anything that happened after it.

Kah suffered bleeding to the brain, which put her in an induced coma for five days. She also had several breaks to the body, including a broken wrist, foot and nose. After waking up from the coma, Kah struggled significantly with memory loss and confusion.

Despite the challenges she faced, Kah was heartened by the outpouring of support she received from her fans. During the period of her recovery, partner Ben Melham, her parents and closest family members were her biggest supporters.

Kah was down to ride In Secret in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap before her fall and was replaced by Dean Holland, who went on to win the race and graciously spoke to Bruce McAvaney in his post-race interview. Kah paid tribute to Holland after he tragically died in a race fall at Donald last month.

Kah is now on the long road to recovery and has to pass a neurological test before she can start race riding again. In the meantime, has been back aboard her off-the-track retired racehorse, Brax. “I’ve sat on him and given him a little ride around because he’s the only thing keeping me feel normal at the moment,” she said. “Yeah I do (want to ride again), I’m going crazy. Just want to be at the races. I loved riding so much and it’s been a whole entire life, so I think it’d be a big shame if I didn’t race ride again.”

Kah’s resilience and determination has been an inspiration to many and her story of recovery is a testament to her strength and courage. While her journey back to the track is still uncertain, Kah is hopeful that she will one day be able to resume her career.

As Kah continues to battle her way back to full health, fans can watch, stream and catch up with their favourite Horse Racing events on the home of Seven's Horse Racing coverage.
