Ayton FC Win Beckett League Division One Title as Wombleton Wanderers Lift Panasonic Cup

     Ayton FC were crowned champions of the newitts.com Beckett Football League Division One on Saturday afternoon following a 10-2 home win against a depleted Bagby & Balk side. Eric Hall was the star of the show, scoring an impressive eight goals, while Jake Sands added a couple more for the champions. Jake Bowes and Louis Chapman scored the consolation goals for the visitors.

     The other action of the day saw the opening round of the Marisa Cup, with Goldsborough beating Goal Sports 4-2. Damon Craig, Jack Bowden and a brace from Ben Watson were on target for the Whitby outfit, while Brad Cawkwell replied with two for the Scarborough-based club. Ethan Chan scored both Heslerton goals from the penalty spot in an exciting clash that ended in a penalty shoot-out, with Chan, Jack Burnett and Rob Ruston all scoring from the spot and keeper Simon Clark producing an excellent save from the Park keeper as Heslerton won 3-2.

     Friday evening saw the top two teams of Division Two face each other in The Panasonic Cup Final, held at Kirkbymoorside Football Club. Wombleton Wanderers took on their rivals Valley FC in a closely fought match, with little between the two sides throughout the season. It was Wombleton that would lift the converted trophy with a goal in each half by Ryan and Jordan Rivis.

     Ayton FC and Wombleton Wanderers can both be proud of their achievements this season, with the former crowned champions of the Beckett League Division One and the latter lifting the Panasonic Cup. The action in the Marisa Cup continues this week, with more teams looking to add silverware to their trophy cabinets.
