The London Stadium is Set to Transform as Major League Baseball Comes to Town

Key Highlights :

1. London Stadium will undergo a permanent change this weekend when MLB comes to the capital.
2. The stadium will return to Premier League standard within five days of the final out on Sunday afternoon.
3. MLB will hold two regular season events at the home of the Hammers, with the St Louis Cardinals squaring off against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday and Sunday.

This weekend, the London Stadium will be the site of a major transformation as Major League Baseball (MLB) comes to town. The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs will play in the MLB World Tour: London Series 2023 on June 24-25, marking the first time MLB has been played in the capital since 2019. In preparation for the two-game series, the stadium has undergone a huge overhaul over the last two weeks to make it more suitable for baseball.

The first major change is the installation of two massive dressing rooms, each big enough for an MLB team and staff. These locker rooms, which have been decked out with Cardinals and Cubs logos and colouring, are located just off the tunnel used by West Ham and are much closer to the field than the football dressing rooms. This is a permanent change, as MLB has committed to four more games in London in 2024 and 2026, with Paris hosting a series in 2025.

In addition to the locker rooms, 345 tonnes of clay from Pittsburgh have been imported to the stadium for use on the infield. This clay is familiar to the players, as 25 of the 30 MLB teams use it, and it will be kept in London for use next year. To make the stadium more suitable for baseball, the seating has also been moved in to bring the crowd closer to the action. Finally, 144,000 square feet of artificial turf has been imported to the UK and will sit on top of West Ham's usual playing surface.

The transformation of the London Stadium for the MLB World Tour: London Series 2023 will be an exciting experience for fans. Tickets for the two-game series are available now at ticketmaster.co.uk/mlb, and the stadium will return to Premier League standard within five days of the final out on Sunday afternoon. Don't miss out on the chance to witness this unique event and see the London Stadium transformed into a baseball stadium for the weekend.
