Preventing Littering at Armed Forces Weekend in Cleethorpes

Key Highlights :

1. Cleethorpes has 320 litter bins, but some extra measures are in place to keep the seaside town looking neat and tidy after the bustling weekend.
2. The street cleansing team is taking these additional measures: adding extra-large bins in Market Place, Alexandra Road and by the Pier, installing two skips for litter in Kingsway, increasing how often they empty the bins along the seafront from North Promenade to the Fitties, litter picking on foot for the duration of the event.
3. Despite there being a large number of bins, no amount can cope with such a busy crowd without cooperation. If you are visiting, the council asks that if a bin is full, please find another or take your rubbish home with you.

Armed Forces Weekend is one of the busiest events in Cleethorpes, attracting huge crowds of visitors each year. With such a large influx of people comes the challenge of preventing littering and keeping the seaside town looking neat and tidy. North East Lincolnshire Council are rolling out extra measures to cope with the demand, including installing extra-large bins, two skips for litter, and increasing how often they empty the bins along the seafront.

The council is also asking for cooperation from visitors. If a bin is full, they are encouraged to find another or take their rubbish home with them. The street cleaners will be wheeling bins to a stationary bin wagon in Central Promenade, near the Ross Castle, and have smaller roving wagons on the North Promenade and between the Leisure Centre and the Fitties. Traders operating in the resort must also have their own arrangements in place for disposing of their business waste, and must not use street litter bins.

Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for Environment and Transport, said: “Our amazing street cleansing team face a huge job this weekend. With so many visitors expected, we need everyone to do their part and help us keep Cleethorpes looking neat and tidy. Please give them space to do their jobs and if a bin is full, find another or take your rubbish home with you.”

It’s important to remember that Cleethorpes is not only a popular tourist destination, but also an internationally important site for nature and wildlife. Everyone can help to keep the area clean and tidy by disposing of their rubbish responsibly.

Armed Forces Weekend is set to be an exciting event, with a Lancaster flypast, zorb balls, and a military parade. To ensure that the event runs smoothly and the town remains clean and tidy, visitors are asked to do their part and dispose of their rubbish responsibly. With everyone’s help, the event can be enjoyed without leaving a mess behind.
