At just 22 years old, Jack James thought he was doing the right thing when he decided to fly out to Istanbul to get a set of veneers for £3,000. He wanted to look better on camera and was initially happy with the results. However, months later he started to experience serious issues with his teeth and was left with a “horror movie” smile.

Jack, from Manchester, said he noticed he was struggling to floss his teeth but didn’t think anything of it until his teeth started to bleed last month. He went to an emergency dentist and was told his teeth were a mess and he had an infection. The dentist said it would cost up to £20,000 to fix.

Unable to afford the high costs in the UK, Jack decided to fly back out to Turkey in June 2023 to have the veneers removed. When they were taken out he was shocked to discover his real teeth had been shaved down to look like a "shark". He was then fitted with a new set of veneers which he still has.

However, since returning to the UK Jack says one of his veneers has fallen out, leaving him with a gap in his teeth. He said: “The crown just came off. It was like something out of a horror movie.”

Jack is now warning others to do their research before going abroad for their dentistry treatments. He said: “I feel so upset with myself. I feel like plucking all my teeth out. I wish I'd got composite bonding, but I can't change the past.”

Jack’s story is a reminder to always do your research before undergoing any dental procedure, especially if it involves travelling abroad. It’s important to ensure you are fully aware of the risks and potential complications. If you are considering veneers, it’s best to speak to your dentist about the best option for you.
