Karan Bhatia, Google's global head of government affairs and public policy, told PTI on Friday that the company is very excited about India and its trajectory.

     India has seen an explosion in internet usage and in new small businesses and startups in the last nine years, Bhatia said. He said across the board, there is an ecosystem that exists in India that is driving forward the country's presence in the global digital network. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has had a digital-first mindset, from the outset, he said, citing the Aadhar program as an example.

     Bhatia said Google is excited about the Prime Minister's visit to the US next week, as it presents an opportunity for growth in the people-to-people, business-to-business, and digital space. He said Google is playing an important role in this field, with products, partnerships with startups, and its India Digitization Fund.

     Google considers itself an AI-first company and has been investing in this area for years, Bhatia said. He said the US and India could be two AI superpowers working together, and Google is part of the dialogue. He said many companies, including Google, are looking to grow in India and continue to invest in India.

     The Indian government is investing in digital and technology infrastructure, people skills, and policy and regulatory environments to ensure the growth of the digital space, Bhatia said. He said this makes a lot of sense as it is what will shape economic development trajectories.
