The recent defeat of Celtic at Ibrox has left the Celtic faithful feeling anxious about the team’s chances in the Champions League. Former Celtic her

Key Highlights :

1. Celtic are concerned about their defensive weaknesses and need to strengthen in this area in order to compete with Europe's elite.
2. Celtic have been flawless for months but lost to Rangers in a derby.
3. Postecoglou is prioritising evolution over revolution with regards to Celtic's squad.

The lacklustre performance of the team has been attributed to the absence of first-choice centre-back, Cameron Carter-Vickers. His presence was sorely missed as Carl Starfelt, Alexandro Bernabei and Yuki Kobayashi failed to keep tabs on the likes of Fashion Sakala, Todd Cantwell and John Souttar.

Commons believes that the team needs to invest in a better centre-back to replace Carter-Vickers. He also noted the lack of impact made by Bernabei, who was signed from Argentina last summer for £3.75 million. He believes that Greg Taylor has been the more impressive of the two players and has thus been given the nod ahead of Bernabei.

Kobayashi was also highlighted as a weak link in the team. Commons believes that the pace and physicality of the game was too much for him and he wasn’t able to offer the same level of authority and assurance as Carter-Vickers.

The defeat has put a dent in the team’s chances of eclipsing the points tally set by Brendan Rodgers’ Invincibles a few years ago. Commons believes that this game was far from meaningless, as it was a chance for the team to set a new record.

He also praised Rangers for their victory and acknowledged that it was a much-needed win for Michael Beale. However, he believes that the result doesn’t change a great deal for next season and Celtic will still start as favourites to win a third league title on the bounce.

Celtic will need to make some tweaks to the squad in the summer in order to compete with the top teams in Europe. Commons believes that Postecoglou must be disappointed with the team’s performance and that they must return to their high standards.

He concluded by saying that the team must not take any game for granted and must always strive to give their best. With the right recruits in the summer, Celtic can surely make a charge on the Champions League and make their fans proud.
