Hypertension, also known as "the silent killer," is one of the most prevalent diseases all over the world, including in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its negative effects on the heart and its severe complications on all organs of the body can lead to sudden death. Dr. Amr El-Shafei Wali, a cardiologist at Dallah Namar Hospital in Riyadh, has warned about the dangers of high blood pressure and the need for early examination of the disease.

In recognition of the dangers of hypertension, the International Day of Hypertension is celebrated on May 17th each year. This serves to spread awareness of the effects of this disease, which is extremely affecting and dangerous to humans. Dr. Al-Shafei emphasizes the importance of measuring blood pressure accurately and periodically to maintain the normal pressure level. High blood pressure can make it difficult for the heart to pump blood, leading to serious health complications.

Research suggests that two out of every five people in the Middle East have high blood pressure, indicating that this is a major cause of premature death around the world. Unfortunately, most people with high blood pressure do not show any symptoms, although it has reached dangerous levels. Symptoms may include headache and shortness of breath, as well as nasal bleeding. These usually only occur when high blood pressure reaches a dangerous stage.

Dr. Al-Shafei recommends avoiding meals containing high amounts of salts, as these elevate blood pressure. Instead, he suggests eating rich meals low in fat, cholesterol, and low-fat dairy products to help maintain the normal level of blood pressure. He also suggests a healthy lifestyle, including eating and exercising, as well as leaving bad habits such as smoking and avoiding stress.

The Dallah Health Group is a leading healthcare provider in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with six facilities, more than 900 beds, 500 outpatient clinics, and more than 3,000 employees, including a thousand expert doctors. The group serves more than 1.5 million patients annually and strives to provide the highest standards of health care in the Kingdom.

High blood pressure is a serious condition that can lead to life-threatening complications. It is important for everyone to be aware of the risks and to take the necessary steps to prevent and manage the condition.
