The questions remain lurking in the air: should Kaizer Chiefs sign Andile Jali? Is he needed? Junior Khanye is convinced AJ should head for Naturena.

With the 33-year-old on his way out of Mamelodi Sundowns as a free agent in June, reports say Chiefs are not actually making any moves to sign Jali despite a gaping void in defensive midfield. According to Khanye, Chiefs’ decision-makers should simply set their egos aside and sign Matatiele’s finest despite Jali’s decision to reject the Glamour Boys in 2018 to join Kabo Yellow.

“… As I said even in the January transfer window, the coach should have realised that he needs a defensive holding midfielder, someone who will link the defense and the midfield,” Khanye said via i DiskiTimes. “They may be proud but they need Andile and that’s my opinion,” the former winger added.

Staying with Chiefs, former club striker Siphelele Mthembu has sent a plea to upcoming players to avoid certain behaviours, including the use of muti. Speaking to one of the most-revered journalists in local football, Mahlatsi Mphahlele, Mthembu urged young players to keep a distance from hazards like unhealthy eating, ignorance, and muti.

In addition to hard work and full dedication, players should not end up in a position of depending on ‘the muti guy.’ Mthembu believes that players should focus on their own abilities and talents, and not rely on any external factors.

At the end of the day, the decision to sign Andile Jali lies in the hands of Kaizer Chiefs’ decision-makers. Junior Khanye believes that the team should set their egos aside and sign the Matatiele-born midfielder, but the final call is up to the club.

Only time will tell if the Glamour Boys decide to take a chance on the 33-year-old. Until then, the questions remain: should Kaizer Chiefs sign Andile Jali?
