Rose Faustino: 15-Year-Old Weightlifter Captures Silver Medal and Hearts at 32nd SEA Games
Key Highlights :

At just 15 years old, Rose Faustino has already made a name for herself in the weightlifting world. At the 32nd SEA Games, she captured the hearts of many and the silver medal in the Women’s 55kg weight category. Despite not winning the gold, Faustino was still satisfied with her performance, as she didn’t expect to have the opportunity to fight for it at all.
Faustino, the youngest of the five competitors, had a good chance of taking the gold. She successfully lifted 104kg in clean and jerk and 80 in snatch to collect a total of 184kg. Her closest pursuer was Indonesian Juliana Klarisa, who initially had two no-lifts in clean and jerk (102kg and 105kg). Klarisa was able to lift 105kg on her third try, forcing Faustino to go for the next weight at 107kg. Unfortunately, Faustino was unable to lift the weight, settling for the silver medal.
Faustino admitted that nerves got into her in the final lift as it was her first time to compete in the SEA Games. In fact, it was also the first time she tried to lift 107kg, as she never attempted it in training. Despite not winning the gold, Faustino was still grateful to have given her best in the biennial meet.
Faustino’s success at the SEA Games is a testament to her hard work and determination. She is an inspiration to many young athletes, showing that age is no barrier to achieving greatness. We look forward to seeing what else Faustino will achieve in the future.
