Exploring the Rumored James Gunn Superman Cast Options
Key Highlights :

The world of superhero movies is rife with rumors and speculation, and the latest is that James Gunn's upcoming Superman Legacy project is no different. Over the weekend, there were a lot of rumors floating around that certain actors were auditioning for certain roles with James Gunn’s upcoming Superman Legacy cast. Gunn himself, usually quick to flat-out shoot down rumors wholesale, said that he wouldn’t comment on auditions one way or another. The Wrap reported that David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Jacob Elordi and Andrew Richardson were auditioning for Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan, Emma Mackey and Samara Weaving were auditioning for Lois Lane.
There was also speculation that Hoult (who also auditioned for Reeves’ Batman) may also be considered for Lex Luthor, and another rumor that Lex Luthor may be black in Gunn’s version instead. The Wrap report said that Mrs. Maisel herself, Brosnahan, gave a “strong” audition for Lois Lane, though many fans online have been picking Sex Education’s Emma Mackey for the role.
When it comes to Superman, David Corenswet seems to embody the part the most, as he’s essentially a young Henry Cavill. As for Lex, Hoult may be a bit young, but after watching him in The Great, I could see him being good for the part. A black actor would also make sense given the overwhelmingly white cast that makes up most of the Superman roster.
Given Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, which ended on a high note, plus his Suicide Squad, one of the best films in the DCEU, there are high hopes for his Superman Legacy film. We’ll see what future rumors bring, even if most of the time, superhero casting rumblings don’t tend to fully pan out.
