Earth Is Getting Easier for Aliens to Find
Key Highlights :

Humans are sending out more signals than ever before. From cell phones to broadcast TV and radio to communications bounced through space via satellite, our planet is becoming increasingly easier to detect from other galaxies. A new study from the University of Mauritius, reported by Vice, has revealed that while current cell phone transmissions are too weak to be detected by even the nearest habitable stars, the proliferation of 5G and satellite internet services are making it much easier for aliens to find us.
The study, conducted by Ramiro Saide and his team, looked into the phenomenon of human “radio leakage” into space. With technological advancements like mobile phones and satellite internet systems, such as Starlink, our radio waves are reaching further and further beyond our atmosphere. The team found that 5G, in particular, boosts our output power significantly and increases the chances of our planet being discovered by extraterrestrial intelligence.
It’s important to note, however, that broadcast TV is now a much smaller percentage of what we throw into the ether than it was in the past. This means that while our signals are becoming easier to detect, there is still a chance that our planet will remain undetected.
That said, the study from the University of Mauritius is a reminder of how much our technology has advanced and how much easier it is becoming for aliens to find us. We should remain mindful of this fact and take steps to ensure that our signals don’t end up being used against us. After all, who knows what might be lurking out there in the depths of space.
